Four People Killed in a Wrong Way Crash

On Wednesday, April 22, four people were killed in a wrong way crash in Sacramento.

According to California Highway Patrol, the accident happened just before 2.30 a.m. when a Toyota Prius being driven by an unidentified woman was heading east in the westbound lanes of U.S. Route 50 just east of downtown. She then hit a pickup truck head on near Stockton Boulevard. The pickup was then hit by a third vehicle and burst into flames. The woman driving the Prius died at the scene as well as the three men inside the pickup truck. The driver of the third vehicle only received minor injuries.

Witnesses who saw the accident called 911 and stopped to try and render assistance but all of the victims were already deceased.

According to police the Prius had been driving in the wrong direction for several miles before the accident occurred and at this stage it is not known why the Prius driver was going the wrong way. Toxicology tests on her are expected later in the week.

The westbound lanes were closed for hours for the investigation leading to congestion during the morning commute on Thursday.

A Young Man Died in an Accident in Rural Sacramento County

On Sunday, March 23, a young man died in an accident in a rural part of Sacramento County.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the accident happened at around 7.15 p.m. along Highway 99 near Elverta Road in Sacramento County. Brandon William Jakaboski, aged 23, of Rio Linda was driving a truck southbound and he ran off the right shoulder and the vehicle flipped over. Jakaboski was the lone occupant of the truck.

People stopped to try and help Jakaboski, but were unable to get him out of the vehicle. Emergency crews responded and eventually managed to extricate him, however, their efforts were in vain and he was declared dead at the scene.

Investigators believe Jakaboski was driving at a high rate of speed and that is what caused the accident.

Tow Truck Driver Killed in Hit and Run

A tow truck driver was killed by a hit and run driver on Highway 50 on 22 February.

According to California Highway Patrol the accident happened near Jefferson Boulevard in West Sacramento. Octavio Portugal received a call from 29 year old Michael Bower on Monday night saying that the tow truck he was driving had overheated on westbound Highway 50 near Jefferson Boulevard. Portugal went out to find him and fixed the truck. He then left, assuming Bower was behind him, but when he realized he wasn’t he returned to where he had left the truck.

When he arrived the CHP officers were there and they had discovered Bower’s body which had apparently been hit by a big rig that swerved onto the shoulder but never stopped.

The police are now looking for the driver of the rig, but they say the driver may not have known he or she struck the tow truck driver.
